The Kenya Professional Safari Guides Association is an independent non-profit making body created for the certification of Safari Driver Guides, Lodge Naturalists and other individuals within the Tourism Sector. The KPSGA’s aim is to provide an effective, inexpensive and voluntary certification process giving awards of Bronze, Silver and Gold standards through an examination process.
Those who qualify to sit the test are Professional Safari Guides, Lodge Naturalists, Safari Driver-guides and others in the Tourism Safari Industry. Several years field experience in the wildlife safari industry is adequate in order to take the first category [Bronze-Level]. Progression up the various categories will be based on merit alone.
Kenya Professional Safari Guide in order to sit an exam for the:-
1) Bronze category, need not have experience in the field, but should be in the tourism industry or should have proof of some tourism related qualification
2) Silver category, must have three (3) additional years in the field, at Bronze-Level.
3) Gold category, must have an additional three (3) years in the field, at Silver-Level.
KPSGA continues to operate in cooperation with Ministry of Tourism [MOT], Kenya Wildlife Service [KWS], Kenya Association of Tour Operators [KATO], the National Museums of Kenya and the various County Councils. The exams are held monthly apart from December at the KWS headquarters, Nairobi Safari Walk with representatives of the Exam Committee in attendance. KWS and KATO are driving forces in the industry and the MOT, KATO and KWS are represented on the main Board.
